Course Basics
Course Purpose: This course is a fully online high school art & design course. This course meets the Washington State high school graduation requirements for .5 high school fine arts credit.
Course Goal: The goal of this course is to provide basic art & design skills so you can learn how to express ideas and apply art skills to create artworks through a variety of media.

More Course Information: This online course designed in Canvas covers seven modules of Art & Design concepts. The course is standards based and uses the National Core Art Standards and ISTE 21st century skills standards. This course is meant to be a one semester course for high school students in grades 9-12 that takes 18 weeks to complete. This course could be extended to a year long course to accommodate students who need extended time to complete the requirements.
All projects and assignments, readings, visuals, assessments, videos, directions, tutorials, critiques, and reflections are included in this online course. Peer critiques take place online within assigned teams and as whole class discussions. Student art will be posted within the platform for discussions and critiques.
Student created websites are an essential part of this course and will serve as an online portfolio and the final exam. Course modules are designed to take 2-4 weeks to complete and include practice assignments (formative assessments) that are required prior to the completion of the summative assessment projects. This course requires a student to spend a minimum of an hour a day, five days a week to meet standards in the course.
